As part of St. John’s Christmas celebrations, the church will be hosting a concert given by the Asaph Ensemble from London. This Christian group consisting of 2 singers, 2 trumpeters and organist have provided concerts for churches across the denominational spectrum in Normandy, France and returned on a regular basis to provide concerts for one small church in a large city in Turkey. In this country the ensemble has travelled widely giving concerts in the north east, south west and over the summer gave a unique performance in Bardwell’s St. Peter’s Chapel; the oldest chapel in Britain dating back to 654 AD.
The group consists of Louise Mott, a mezzo soprano whose credits including singing with both English & Welsh National Operas, the soprano Nicola Hooke who made her debut solo appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in November, Peter Desmond, Head of the Haringay Music Service, Robert Evans who has given organ recitals across Europe, most recently in St. Stephen’s Vienna and David Hooke, who conducts the Adoramus Orchestra and choir and is a mission partner for Christ Church Cockfosters.
Their A Holy Night concert will include such favourites as The Children’s Prayer from Hansel and Gretel, For unto us a child is born and Rejoice greatly from Messiah, Jesu, Bambino, Winter from the Four Seasons, a Sonata for Two Organs, Festival music for Two Trumpets as well as favourite Carols for all to sing.
Tickets are priced at £4 adult, £2 child and £10 family of four and this will also include refreshments and mince pies/festive cake.
