One of only two historic weighbridges in the UK has been destroyed.
The grade one listed structure which hung from Ye Olde Bell and Steelyard in Woodbridge was smashed to pieces after a lorry crashed into it on New Street.
Police were called to the scene at 7.15am on Tuesday, April 10 after the incident.
A police spokeswoman said that they had now located and spoken to the driver who will be “interviewed for traffic related offences in due course”.
The Woodbridge community has offered its support and condolences to Hugh Thomas, tenant of the pub, who was in bed when he heard the collision.
“It was a massive bang, it woke up half the street,” he said. “The weighbridge that hangs over the road is gone.
“There are only two of these weighbridges in the whole of the UK. Now there’s only one.
“It is completely demolished.”
Machinery was called in to help remove the debris. Police closed New Street as the road is blocked by debris from the crash and traffic was diverted through Chapel Street.
