It’s #WoodbridgeWednesday – time to meet another member of the Woodbridge business community. Tony Moorcroft is the managing director of Coast Consulting Ltd, which aims to help individuals, teams and businesses achieve their full potential through focused coaching and training.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to run a successful business?
I would say you needed to be actively listening, proactive and influential.
Describe/outline your typical day?
Every single day is different for me. But a perfect workday would include an early morning run, smashing my emails, a one-to-one hypnotherapy and coaching session with a professional athlete to sharpen their mental game fitness and a speaking engagement. I also enjoy running a half-day masterclass in London with one of my corporate clients, pitching for business and evening Skype coaching sessions. My perfect day would end back home for dinner or sharing a bottle of wine with my wife at The Table or The Anchor in Woodbridge.
What motivates you?
Challenging myself to do something out of my comfort zone and completing it.
How do you build a successful customer base?
I believe you get good work by doing good work. My clients tell other people and word-of-mouth has always been my preferred and proven way of getting business. I also do regular speaking sessions which generate interest.
If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?
My mum so I could say the things I felt but never told her.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
My mum and dad.
What is your favourite book and why?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho because it demonstrates that what we are looking for is often right under our nose.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
Taking a month off after my first year on my own, reflecting on what I had done and being excited about what lay ahead.
What are your hobbies?
I love to run. In the last year or so I’ve jumped from 10ks to marathons. It’s my meditation. I also love eating out locally and spending time with my wife, daughter and friends.
What makes you happy?
Nothing makes me happy. I am happy. It’s inside out, not outside in.
Where you see yourself and your business in five years? 10 years?
In five years, I would like to do more online coaching and less travelling. In 10 years, writing and speaking as well as mentoring someone else to take it forward.
What do you most love about living and working in Woodbridge?
I love the eclectic people. The fact that there are no barriers to people talking and collaborating. I also love the river and being able to run along its banks. It is a unique and magical place, but ultimately, it’s about the amazing people who are so community minded. I can’t think of anywhere else I want to live.
Since we moved here we have never been on holiday because every day here feels like I’m on holiday.
What exciting news is happening for you, your employees or your business in the next few months?
We are just in the process of pinning down a couple of large contracts with two new clients which should fill my calendar for more than 18 months.
