Woodbridge businesses have urged Suffolk to back the town in a bid to win the title of Champion High Street.
The public are being asked to vote for The Thoroughfare in Woodbridge after it was named as one of just 13 high streets in England to have been shortlisted in the Great British High Street Awards.
Shops along the high street are also set to hold a huge street party on Friday (September 28th) to wow a team of judges.
James Lightfoot, chairman of Choose Woodbridge, the business and tourism group, said: “These awards celebrate the most ambitious high streets in the UK and this is certainly something The Thoroughfare can lay claim to.
“We boast a diverse make-up of independent and family-run shops and are home to a host of vivid, vibrant events.
“To reach the finals for such a prestigious award scheme is a triumph for Woodbridge, Suffolk and the whole of East Anglia and we want to showcase exactly what makes us special.
“To win we need votes. But we also want our community to come together for a spectacular party. We want people of all ages to join us. Your town needs you!”
On Friday, The Thoroughfare will be decorated and shops will be running in-store promotions and activities.
Choose Woodbridge will be bringing extra attractions to the high street on the day to include music and dance performances, food tasting, market stalls and the involvement of local schools.
The replica of the Saxon sailing boat Sae Wyfling and a team of actors will be in town along with an installation from the Beowulf Festival incorporating a spectacular light projection and art exhibition.
On top of this a brand new Woodbridge Memory Bike will be debuted. This enables people to cycle elderly loved ones around the town.
Promotion teams from the Great British High Street will also be on hand surprising and delighting consumers with giveaways and a caravan will be parked in town encouraging shoppers to vote for the town.
You can vote for The Thoroughfare at any time over the next six weeks on social media using the hashtags #GBHSWoodbridge and #MyHighStreet.
The public vote counts for 30% of the overall vote.
The street party will run from 10am until 4pm this Friday, September 28th. Judges will be visiting us between 12pm and 3pm.
