News Article‘6 Reasons I choose Woodbridge’ by Emma Johnson, Sykes Cottages

To meet Emma ‘Magic ’Johnson is an invigorating and inspirational experience. With her love of everything that resembles living life, the great outdoors, sports (oh so many sports!) and her home county of Suffolk oozing out of her, the recently appointed Regional Manager of Sykes Cottages talked to us about why she adores it around here.

6 Reasons I choose Woodbridge

“Big skies, stunning coastlines, rich in culture, food to die for, idyllic pubs, rolling countryside, steeped in history, pine forests littered with trails, fishing villages and more sunshine than any other county in the UK, why would you choose to visit or live anywhere else?”

The weather

I’ve lived in Suffolk all my life, lucky enough to be born at the Phyllis just outside of the wonderful market town of Woodbridge (now Melton Day Nursery). Born in to a farming family, I was bound to become a lover of the great outdoors! My childcare, as I understand it, was enjoying the Suffolk sunshine from my pram. Suffolk being one of the driest, sunniest counties in Britain, I have the freckles to prove this!

It’s like being on holiday – all the time

With excellent weather and so much to do, it is no surprise that Woodbridge is an ideal holiday destination for many. Take a walk along the meandering, tidal river and enjoy the birdlife at low tide or hop in a scull boat or kayak and make your way down the Deben, enjoying un-spoilt landscapes and a natural silence, interrupted only by wildlife. The Deben enables you to stop off at a couple of excellent pubs for snacks such as the Ramsholt Arms before coming to the river mouth at Felixstowe Ferry.

The food, the drinks, the shops…. the people

I’ve always had a special love of Woodbridge, the friendly faces about the town and the ability to move with the times but still retain its dated charm. I am hard pushed as a local to pop in to Woodbridge without it becoming a social event. People get hooked in to the Woodbridge life and with everything here on offer you can’t blame any of us! It’s hard not to be enticed into one of the many pubs, restaurants or cafes, each offering a similar but slightly different feel, excellent choice of food and all dangerously welcoming.

The great outdoors

My love of the outdoors has been inspired by Suffolk life. From an early age, I have always loved walking and cycling along the Deben, and will never tire of the ever changing light, rare birds and beauty of it. It naturally inspired my love of not just walking and cycling but of wildlife and photography too.

Cycling

For cycling, the area offers excellent on and off road routes with Woodbridge being a key destination and gateway to the Suffolk heritage coast. Planning routes is easy, you just can’t go wrong with so much choice on your doorstep. A network of routes linking villages, fishing villages and market towns, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to fuel stops on your doorstep form traditional pubs serving hearty meals to excellent cafes with locally sourced delights to aid your ride home.

Work and networking

I am now proud to be the Regional Manager for Sykes Cottages and we are looking for excellent properties to add to our portfolio. The nature of such diverse local business and residents round here enables great networking. If you have a property you are already letting or one you are considering as a holiday let I would be happy to come and visit you to discuss it. There is no obligation but we would be able to give you an idea of it’s occupancy and earning potential. Please call the office on 01244 356666 or visit our website www.sykescottages.co.uk
