Woodbridge-based singer set to open for Ed Sheeran

News ArticleWoodbridge-based singer set to open for Ed Sheeran

A singer from Woodbridge is preparing for the biggest concert of her life this bank holiday weekend.

Caswell will be taking to the stage at Chantry Park for Ed Sheeran’s final show on Monday.

And, not only will she be performing alongside Lewis Capaldi and The Darkness in Ipswich, but the musician will also entertain the crowds as Reading and Leeds festivals on the BBC Introducing Stage.

Caswell, a former BRIT school student, said: “It’s starting to sink in now, but it is still very bizarre.

“This weekend is undoubtedly going to be the best weekend of my life and will potentially be a tipping point in my career.”

The unsigned artist was crowned the winner of a battle of the bands competition on August 6 at Epic Studios in Norwich to secure her spot in opening for Ed Sheeran.

“I am so ready for the performance. Being involved in this competition has surpassed any of my expectations and, as cringey as it sounds, my wildest dream has come true,” she added.

“I’ve had moments where I thought about just giving up, as it can be really hard at times being unsigned. So, to have this happen now is amazing and I am so overwhelmed.”

James Lightfoot, chairman of Choose Woodbridge, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Caswell was victorious in the battle of the bands competition.

“The win was thoroughly deserved, and she will now get to perform her music to 40,000 people on bank holiday Monday.

“We look forward to seeing Caswell on stage at Chantry Park proudly flying the flag for Woodbridge.”

Caswell will also be performing later this month at Unity festival and Primmadonna festival, on 31st August.

  • Unity festival is taking place at Woolsey Bridge Fields in Diss (IP22 5SX)
  • Primmadonna festival is at Laffitts Hall in Pettaugh (IP14 6DT)
