A Woodbridge homeware store has triumphed in a “David and Goliath” battle for a national award.
This is the second time the family-run store has been celebrated alongside big name stores after it beat Harrods to the title of Britain’s Best Window Display in the prestigious Housewares Innovation Awards last year.
Paul Venediger, co-owner of the Woodbridge Kitchen Company said: “Small companies don’t have endless resources like their bigger competitors, so they’ve got to be strategic. For us, this is about creating exceptional experiences for our customers.
“In these awards we have been singled out for inventive and creative ways to draw people in which include our spectacular window displays.”
These have included biscuit chandeliers, rubbish bin snowmen, a cascade of teapots and an indoor beach.
James Lightfoot, chairman of Choose Woodbridge, the business and tourism organisation which represents 187 business across the town, said: “It fills us with enormous pride to be home to businesses like the kitchen store which is putting Woodbridge on the map for unique shopping experiences.
“They are a true David and Goliath story – a small business which is making a huge impression on a national stage.
“To be commended alongside some of these companies – well-known household names – proves that they are doing something right. We are very proud of all they have achieved.”
A spokesman for the Excellence in Housewares Awards said: “Huge congratulations to Woodbridge Kitchen Company. To be recognised in such a tough retail climate must mean they are doing really amazing things.”
