Family business Archway Carpets won Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday Award last month. The Awards are entered in the form of a 140 character Tweet by small businesses via Theo’s #SBS Twitter campaign.

The local company¬†provides flooring to domestic and commercial clients. Following in his father Graham’s path, Darrell Smith, Company Director, joined Archway Carpets in 2012 and introduced Archway to the world of social media.

Darrell told us, “Theo describes himself as a Shopkeeper and is clearly passionate about supporting and promoting small businesses. The Small Business Sunday campaign is a great way for businesses like ours to get ourselves out there. #SBS runs every Sunday between 5.00-7.30 pm. During this time small businesses tweet about themselves and Theo retweets his 6 favourites. We were chosen on February 14th and became a #SBSWinner”

Archway Carpets’ tweet included the carpet shops locally renowned #fashionforyourfloor. Winning #SBS brings more than the deserved recognition. Theo Paphitis adds the business to his closed Facebook group and theopaphitissbs.com site. Darrell and the team will now benefit from tips, experience and resources from Theo as well as a invitation to his annual conference. Archway Carpets could also become a client of the Theo’s. Darrell explained, “Theo goes to the businesses in his #SBS winners group for his own services and needs. For an event he recently held, Theo used a winning caterer from the Small Business Sunday campaign. He has a really good mix of business sectors among his winners which is useful for all of us.”

Archway Carpets is not the only Suffolk business to be chosen in the #SBS campaign, continuing to show that our local businesses are really on the map.

Although a well established, traditional, family business, Archway Carpets continues to strive forwards. Recently going through a re-brand, a website update and with plans to refurbish the shop in the near future, Archway is also really active on Instagram and the previously mentioned Twitter. Darrell, a keen local business ‘networker’, recognises that customers engage in different ways and social media is a valuable platform to showcase their products and services and their personality.
