Owner of RE+new gallery Geoff Witts has announced he would like to find a new custodian and owner of this well-established feature of Woodbridge, before the building goes on the general market at the end of April.
The gallery is well known for showcasing a variety of quality exhibitions which continually challenge the stereotype of a regional gallery – including an exhibition of work by the East Anglia Group, all former students of the Royal Academy Schools who live and work in East Anglia.
The gallery has been open for seven years and survived a difficult recession, seeing its highest turnover between October 2014 and January this year.
Geoff Witts says: “I’m very proud of our success and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the artists and being surrounded by amazing art and design. It’s a great gallery and a credit to Woodbridge. I hope others will agree and one or more might have the desire to continue its legacy. In the meantime, it’s business as usual at the gallery until 30th June. All the artists and creatives are aware of the situation and have been very supportive. They want the gallery to live on for the future as much as we do.”
Geoff’s ideal would be for someone to buy Vellum House (freehold available) and then for the gallery to be run by a small co-operative of artists.
