Farlingaye High School, Year 7 Pupils have been getting to know Mr Shakespeare a little better lately. They have designed the border artwork for the flyers, posters and programmes to promote this year’s Woodbridge Shakespeare400 events.
Ms Hetherington, Head of Art, set the project earlier this year but it was much more than a design project. Pupils spent much time researching the Elizabethan period to get a real feel for colours, fashions, symbols and meanings of the Shakespearean times. The final designs were produced using polystyrene tiles created by the pupils after they had immersed themselves in the world of nature, quills, scriptures, heavy fabrics and of course….daggers and darkness.
We visited Farlingaye to meet the pupils and it was clear they had really got to grips with the project. The art room was alive with activity and awash with colour as the pupils continued with their ink prints for the poster designs. The posters and programmes have now all been printed and look great. They are true to the times and will be easily recognisable around the town. The border designs have now been packed with useful information on the full Shakespeare400 Woodbridge programme, organised by Tim Cornford of The Woodbridge Society. All event details are on this website and facebook.
The results are wonderful.
