Florist business continues to blossom despite the pandemic

News ArticleFlorist business continues to blossom despite the pandemic

Many businesses have had to adapt to face the challenges of the last few months. Here we look at how one Woodbridge florist has continued to offer a “ray of sunshine” to people throughout the pandemic with their beautiful blooms and incredible customer services.

Windmills Florist in Woodbridge has been described as enchanting, magical and a real gem. It is easy to see why, tucked away at the top of Cumberland Street Woodbridge, Windmills Florist is a popular, local, independent business.

The owner, Natalia, started work at the shop in 1997 for Mr and Mrs Windmill, hence the perfect name Windmills and the association with Woodbridge and the tulip fields of Holland. In 2003 the owners retired, and Natalia took over the business which has been busy supplying Woodbridge and the surrounding area with beautiful flowers ever since.

She has assembled a team of professional florists, with many years’ experience in floristry all over the world, establishing a reputation for floristry design, quality and originality. The reviews of their work speak highly of the friendly, helpful and excellent service.

Like many businesses Natalia faced the Covid19 pandemic with apprehension and uncertainly. With the shop closed and staff furloughed or shielding, she continued to work hard behind the scenes providing local funeral directors with sympathy and bereavement flowers. With families and loved ones unable to attend funerals, the floral tributes that Natalia provided brought support and comfort to grieving relatives.

The Windmills delivery van is a familiar sight in Woodbridge and the surrounding areas. Natalia’s partner Paul Knott, a plumbing and heating engineer, had recently set up his own business, when lockdown hit. With the normal delivery team shielding at home, Paul started to help with flower deliveries. Paul describes delivering to people during lockdown as a privilege during an uncertain time when people were lonely or bereaved. “It was a pleasure to deliver flowers as a little ray of hope from someone they loved” he said.

Due to the cancellation of numerous weddings, Natalia also spoke with anxious brides and grooms to reassure them that once they had a new date booked, Windmills Florist would be delighted to create their flowers for their special day. When the restrictions lifted, Natalia implemented a ‘Service at the door to keep us all safe’ policy and encouraged customers to use the Windmills Florist website or phone for safe delivery or collection. As customers ventured back out, Natalia was so touched by the kind comments, ‘Thank you’ cards and gifts she received from grateful customers.

For many people, receiving a gift of flowers makes us feel special and loved. For the ‘gift giver’ it’s the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary or just to simply say ‘Thinking of you’ even though I can’t be with you. The joy on a person’s face when flowers are delivered is always memorable.

Natalia lives locally in Woodbridge and Windmills Florist is very much a family affair. Her daughters, parents, aunts and uncle all help to keep up the high standard of the business. At a time when people need hope and cheering up, Natalia and the team at Windmills Florist in Woodbridge continue to serve the community and spread a little bit of joy. The reviews say it all, Enchanting – Five Stars!
