Unruly Pig is named as a UK Top 50 Gastropub. Owner is ‘ humbled “ and ‘hugely proud “
There was huge celebration and clinking of champagne glasses at The Unruly Pig In Woodbridge ( yesterday / earlier this week) as they heard the news that they are officially an Estrella Damm UK Top 50 Gastropub . The prestigious Estrella Damm UK Top 50 list celebrates some of the very best food the UK has to offer and includes some of the biggest names in the industry and includes a plethora of pubs who hold Michelin stars . The Unruly Pig is however the only pub in Suffolk in this UK Top 50 list
This accolade comes on the back of hearing only last week at that The Unruly Pig is also a contender for a special award as they have also been named as a “ Best Front of House Team 2019 “ finalist in the same Estrella Damm UK Top 50 Gastropub awards .Brendan Padfield , owner of The Unruly Pig said that he was still “ humbled , a little overwhelmed but hugely proud and what The Unruly Pig team have achieved “. Brendan added : “ What Head Chef Dave Wall and Restaurant Manager , Amy Challis have achieved never ceases to amaze me . Only four years ago , we took over a pub that was down on its uppers . Since then we have had our moments of course , but Dave, Amy and the whole Unruly team have created a Suffolk success ,winning award after award”
The glittering awards ceremony will take place on 27 January , 2019 at Port Lymphe Hotel & Reserve , near Ashford , Kent . The Unruly Pig will then discover not only if they have won “ Best Front of House Team 2019” but also their position /ranking in the UK Top 50 list . Kent is home to the current number one UK Top 50 Gastropub , Michelin starred The Sportsman’s Arms and their chef , Stephen Harris , will be chef on the night . “Whatever our eventual ranking, we are honoured and truly privileged just to even to make the Top 50 gastropub list . Easy but nevertheless heartfelt words “ added Brendan . “To be also up for a special award is icing on the cake – we are so very lucky “ .
Unfortunately , Head Chef Dave Wall will not be at the awards ceremony because he is a finalist in the Game Chef of the Year 2020 cook off final which is happening at the same time in Birmingham . Dave Wall commented “ Well it’s a lovely problem to have. I will be rooting for the team at the awards ceremony but I may have one or too other important things on my mind !I am just thrilled we have made list and delighted that I am also a finalist at the Game Chef of the Year awards too”
Earlier this year The Unruly Pig’s Head Dave Wall was also named by his peers ( the Craft Guild of Chef Awards 2019) as “ Best Pub Restaurant Chef “ . The Unruly Pig was named “ Best Suffolk Restaurant “ in EAT Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2019
