Jessica Shire has been announced as the 2013 Woodbridge Carnival Queen. Miss Shire, a 16 year old acolyte at St Mary’s Church and Young Leader at Woodbridge Brownies, has been chosen as Queen of the first Woodbridge Carnival in thirty years. Alongside the Queen there will be three Carnival Princesses; Hollie Argent (8), Phoebe Argent (6) and Faith Harrold (7).
Jessica said: “I’m really excited to have been chosen as Carnival Queen. I’ve lived in Woodbridge all my life so I know that it has a great community which I’m proud to be a part of. I think the Carnival will be really good for the town and, as Queen, I aim to keep the people of Woodbridge smiling – just like we were during the Jubilee and the Olympics last year.”
At interview we quickly saw that Jessica has a real understanding and appreciation of the local community. Shehas shown herself as a good role-model and she impressed the committee with her extensive involvement in community activities as well as her desire to continue the 2012 legacy, which created such a fantastic atmosphere and sense of community spirit last year.
The Woodbridge Carnival will take place on Saturday 6th July. A procession of more than 20 celebratory carnival floats will take place at around 1pm along Melton Hill and the Thoroughfare culminating at Kingston Field, where there will be games, competitions, old-style fairground rides, a coconut shy, food stalls, displays, dancing and much more besides.
