The picturesque Woodbridge riverside is adored by locals and tourists alike. And now, one of the jewels on the River Deben’s crown, the Woodbridge Tide Mill, has been commended with an award thanks to its spellbound sightseers.
Trusted attraction directory TripAdvisor has revealed that the Tide Mill is part of its exclusive ‘top 10%’ of attractions around the globe.
Based on reviews, ratings and recommendations from those who have visited the Mill, the 2020 Traveller’s Choice Award is another triumph for Woodbridge following its success in the Great British High Street Awards in 2018.
One of only two working tide mills in the country, the Woodbridge Tide Mill was re-opened in 2012 after restoration and now mills wholemeal flour used by some of the area’s bakeries and restaurants, including The Cake Shop Bakery on the Thoroughfare.
John Carrington, chairman of the Woodbridge Tide Mill Trust that manages the landmark, said: Since the coronavirus pandemic struck we have switched a lot of effort, with great success, to online marketing and this reflects the efforts of our volunteers at a time when the Mill, like so many attractions, has had to forego some valuable visitor revenue.
“The trustees are immensely grateful for the work our team has done to justify this award.”
During a year in which a worldwide pandemic has seen the tourism industry dormant for many months, this TripAdvisor accolade is a beacon of hope for normality and a return to Woodbridge’s position as one of the country’s greatest places to visit.
