Wonderful Windows and Trees WOW Woodbridge

News ArticleWonderful Windows and Trees WOW Woodbridge

In the run up to Christmas, Woodbridge is stunning.

The Window displays alone are worth a visit, thanks to the Competition to win the coveted Best in Town. Christmas Elves seem to have worked through many nights with extraordinary creativity.

The competition was expertly run, as it has been since its inception 19 years ago, by Scott Matheson-Barr of G&K Estates, 20 The Thoroughfare and each winner of the categories was presented with a shield.

The winner in the small window category was Robert Douglas Hair Salon, 86 The Thoroughfare. This window made all the judges smile: it was reminiscent of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

The large window category winner was the festive window of The Woodbridge Kitchen Company, 7 The Thoroughfare, which was adorned with a boxed-up Advent Calendar. One box is opened each day to reveal a gift to give for Christmas.

There was a non-retail category and this was won by The East Coast Diner, 2 Church St. Their window made all the judges feel warm and cosy with an invitation to drink mulled wine by the open fire inside.

The overall winner was the enchanting Chronicles of Narnia window in the Happiness Store, 6A The Thoroughfare. This window entices one to go through the wardrobe door into the magical kingdom of Happiness to buy that special Christmas gift.

In the middle of the Market Square there is a beautifully lit up Christmas Tree gifted to the town by Woodbridge Rotary who have also organised their wonderful Carol Service around the tree this evening at 6 :30.

For the first time there is a big tree by the Caravan Café to light up Ferry Quay giving a festive feel to Christmas next to the river.

Then all round Town there are another 136 lit up Christmas Trees. This has organised by Clare Perkins as a Director Of Choose Woodbridge with an  amazing team that included Mark Willis from Webb Brothers (proud to be following in his father’s footsteps in lighting up Woodbridge ) and Tim Fincham of The Sandwich Shop, even though he was organising the Christmas Street fair the following week, which he did brilliantly. This year the sparkle the trees have added to our streets is a joy to behold.

If you still want a Christmas Tree, Notcutts ( IP124AF) have a vast range. Also, if you are dreaming of a greener Christmas, a wonderful collection of bee/bug houses and bird feeders plus houseplants that purify the air.

There you can see Father Christmas in his grotto or have tea with him by booking through www.notcutts.co.uk/christmas-events

Also eat and drink in their marquee restaurant. Here you can see more lit up trees and lovely flower paintings on the sides or are they embedded there?

You will have to come and see for yourself.

Just like the other sparkling trees and wonderful windows that make Woodbridge the perfect place for a Christmas Shopping experience.
