We are absolutely delighted to announce that Woodbridge has been named runner up in the Town of the Year category of the brand-new Suffolk Community Awards.
Judges said the community aspect of the town was singled out as one of its strengths along with its diverse range of independent and family-run shops.
A spokeswoman added: “The judges were impressed with the way the community came together for the Great British High Street Awards with dozens of volunteers collaborating to create the most spectacular party the town had ever seen. This included schools, charities, musicians and saw contributions from local businesses to help turn empty shops into exhibition venues.
“The town demonstrates real commitment to being environmentally friendly through pedestrianisation resulting in more opportunity for local markets and small traders to offer locally grown produce.
“School children have also taken part in a litter picking this year with the rubbish collected being used to build a huge dragon that was paraded through the town.”
Last year Woodbridge was named the Sunday Times “best place to live” in the East of England with special mention of its unique community spirit.
It also made the top 10 happiest places to live in the UK according to Rightmove.
Most significantly, in 2018 It was given a Highly Commended Award by the Great British High Street team after being shortlisted from hundreds around the UK to make the final 12.
All winners in the Suffolk Community Awards will be announced at the presentation evening taking place at the Museum of East Anglian Life on Tuesday 24th September.
